A rare Windsor tall bookcase/display unit by Ercol with double cabinet beneath. The base cabinet has an adjustable shelf with a choice of 6 different height levels. It is made from elm and has beautiful dovetail joints. The handles are the wooden inset handles that the Windsor range is well known for.
The tall bookcase/display unit is also made from elm and has dovetail joints. The three wooden shelves are adjustable - the first and second shelf having a choice of 15 differing height levels and the top one having 3 height levels to chose from. The glass shelf can be lifted out but the wooden rests are fixed.
Behind the glass shelf there is a hidden light fixture with 2 bulbs and a light switch with a cable and plug which discreetly threads through to the back of the unit, enabling it to be plugged in. (Please note although in working order the plug has not been PAT tested). Also at the back of this unit are two leather straps which can be attached to the wall to give extra stability to the bookcase.
The bookcase has been well cared for with just a few minor nicks and scratches. The base unit is slightly patchy on it's surface to the right edge and the right hand handle has dark marks on the inset and the left groove (please see photos). These do not detract from the overall craftmanship of this beautiful piece of furniture which can be a bookcase, display and drinks or storage cabinet. (Both the bookcase and cabinet are still produced today by Ercol - the bookcase priced at £2,140 and cabinet £2295).
